How I Work

Individualized Sessions

We don’t just jump into a hypnosis session as soon as you arrive at my office.  First, I get to know you a little bit, we discuss what you want to change and we explore what motivates you.  Hypnosis works best when you feel comfortable and safe, so it’s important to spend some time talking in order to establish rapport with each other.

Another key to successful hypnosis is speaking to the subconscious mind in a way it can easily take in.  The subconscious mind likes sentences to be simple and clear.  I also listen to the content of what you say and pay attention to the way you feel and how you express yourself.  Then I tailor the session to your individual temperament type and your learning/thinking style so I’m speaking your language in the session as much as possible.

We talk before each session so you can update me on your successes and challenges. You share information about the area we should focus on in the session.

First Appointment Jitters

Sometimes people are nervous before their first session because they don’t know what to expect from hypnosis or from me.  But once they meet me and find that I’m not odd, spooky, or judgmental, they feel better.

Even in the hypnotic state, clients are able to converse with me, so I can check in with them to make sure they’re fine with what’s happening every step of the way.

A recent weight loss client said she enjoyed the way I checked in with her, making sure she was comfortable at each point and allowing her the time to express her thoughts and talk about what she was experiencing in the session.

I love working with all different kinds of people and I can usually get on the other person’s wavelength easily.  I use my intuition a lot in my work, and I feel things about the person that I can then check out with them.

Left-Brained People

A lot of times people who are very left-brained, especially engineers, scientists and others who live predominantly in their logical minds, come to me thinking they can’t be hypnotized.  I’ve had good experiences with left-brained types.  They just need to be able to approach hypnosis as an interesting experiment they’re willing to go along with in order to see what happens.

I respect this approach because I like to experience things first-hand, myself. I don’t believe in something just because some authority tells me it is so.  This has been my method from the first class I took in hypnotherapy and hypnosis.  So I agree with using the Scientific Method and then seeing the proof in the results.

Adult A.D.D.

I’ve also had good results helping adults with A.D.D to enter the hypnotic state.  We just give the conscious mind something else to do while I talk to the subconscious mind, and it works really well.  If it’s hard for a client to sit in a chair for very long, we can also modify the length of the sessions.

One client with A.D.D. said after our hypnosis session that she hadn’t felt so calm in years.

I can’t take away a person’s A.D.D., but we can use hypnosis to address issues that come up for them because of it and help them find ways around it.  Many people with A.D.D. have come to me to work on other issues such as weight loss, smoking, writer’s block, or creating more order in their lives.

Spiritual Connection

I have clients who use hypnosis sessions to access their spiritual guidance.  I’ve found in my own life, that self-hypnosis is an incredible tool for changing my level of awareness, making it easier to feel connected to all-that-is.  To me, this is a form of deep prayer and connection to Spirit.

Practice?

With a willing spirit and a little practice, most people can go into hypnosis easily if they want to.  All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis and it gets easier each time you do it.

Sometimes in hypnosis people experience things they didn’t think were possible before they experienced them.  Often people make changes they didn’t think they could make.  Hypnosis can help people to make lasting change very efficiently while they are enjoying the process.

The Basic Parts of a Hypnosis Session

1.)        Each session starts with a pre-induction interview where we talk about your situation.

2.)        I use a relaxation induction method to help you enter the hypnotic state and then additional techniques to deepen that state.

3.)        I guide you through an experience or activity related to your issue.

4.)        I use positive suggestions to reinforce your changes.

5.)        I use a counting method to bring you back to your normal waking state.
